Custom Models

Our Focus
A quality scale model is imperative when representing a prototype to potential customers, fellow team members, visitors, etc.
In order to produce a positive reaction, attention to detail is vital, and detail is what LM3 prides itself in. Our main goal and constant focus is to produce the most realistic models for our customers, and we can say, with confidence, that our years of experience in graphic design and model making qualifies us to do just that.
Capabilities
Software:
The first step that we take when creating a custom model is to draw the model using one of our programs. We use the following software at LM3:
- AutoCAD Inventor: 3D drawing software
- Corel Draw: 2D drawing software
- AutoCAD: 2D drawing software
If you have drawings of your design that you can send to us, we can expedite production. If you don’t, there is no need to worry. All we require are dimensions, hand sketches, and or photographs of the design. The dimensions, photos, etc. allow us to accurately draw your design in one of the programs above.
3D Printing:
Once we have intensively reviewed the design, it is time to start the manufacturing process. For the majority of custom models, we utilize our in-house 3D printer, laser cutting equipment and outsource CNC Machining if necessary. 3D printing is a relatively new technology that allows us to produce scale models with very fine detail. Specifically, our 3D printer, made by 3D Systems, deposits layers of material at .004 of an inch thick. The length of time to print, depends on the scale of the model. Larger models require separate pieces to be printed and then assembled. Because our printer is in house, production time is decreased and lead times reduced significantly.
Laser cutting and fabricating:
- Universal Laser 36” x 18” max capability.
- Rotary attachments to provide “cylindrical” laser-cut parts.
- Spin casting, pattern making, Pewter, Britannia metal casting.
- Photo etching equipment.
- Full 4-color publishing capability.
